Hotel Kilkenny reopened following extensive refurbishment in May 2006 with 140 employees. Prior to the refurbishment the hotel used manual time sheets to record employee time and attendance. Time sheets were inaccurate, prone to human error and easily misplaced. For health and safety reasons the hotel needed to know who was on site at all times. Employment legislation in the hospitality sector was increasing. Time sheets were not sufficient to cope with NERA requirements and to prove compliance in the event of a labour inspection.
The hotel’s principal objective in selecting a computerised time and attendance system was to achieve full compliance with employment legislation. Advance Systems’ Mitrefinch Time and Attendance system, was chosen over two other competitor products due to its superior functionality.
Immediate Results Visible
The hotel adopted a piece-meal approach to the installation of the system. Immediate results were apparent in the departments that were running the software as shifts, breaks etc. were being calculated correctly. The time and attendance software is now used across the hotel for recording employee details, hours worked, sickness, lateness, holidays, the payment of wages, and for completing and costing weekly rosters and reports for 140 employee. A Biometrics terminal is located next to the staff entry point, changing rooms and canteen.
